AMC Brings us “Preacher”

Garth Ennis

For those of you that have never heard of Preacher, it was a 75 issue series that ran roughly from 1995-2000 and written by Garth Ennis who brought us some of the best gory Punisher storylines along with DC’s counterpart, Hitman. Today we live in a world where networks and companies are bringing us adaptations of our favorite comic books and characters to the silver screen, choosing the more popular stories and comic books to pull from and feeding off their popularity. However, AMC is once again choosing to break that mold by bringing us yet another adaptation of a lesser known this cult comic.

Without giving away spoilers, it is not your run of the mill “good vs evil” storyline. The series itself was satirical, gory (in my opinion it rivals that of the Walking Dead comics), and had a supernatural storyline with a very unexpected twist. I am really excited to watch this series because I have always been drawn to to the darker comics such as Dawn, Witchblade, Constantine, and Spawn.

I have high expectations from Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg who adapted the series for television. The premiere date is set for May 22, 2016 after Fear the Walking Dead, and stars Dominic Cooper (most notably Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger and Marvel’s Agent Carter) and Ruth Negga (Raina in Marvel’s Agents of Shield and Lady Taria in the upcoming Warcraft).
