Super Best Friends Play
I love to watch games. To be honest, I prefer to watch other people play games instead of playing them myself. Because of this, I watch a lot of “Let’s Play” channels on YouTube. My new series “YouTube Game Channels” will illustrate some channels I have stumbled across in my viewing time. With that said, let’s dive into Volume 1: Super Best Friends Play!

“Super Best Friends Play” has been around for over 7 years now. In that time period, the friends have published a few dozen playthroughs including (but not limited to) Silent Hill games, Resident Evil titles, and various games found on online sources such as Steam. The three players are Matt, Pat, and Woolie. For the most part, one of them plays while one either helps the other play, or just helps with commentary. However, I have seen at least one game where at least two participated in the gameplay while the third watched.
I have watched several playthroughs that these guys have done. To be honest, this channel is my favorite so far. Granted, they are not always politically correct (talking about genitalia is one of their favorite past-times,) but I love how they all mesh together. When you watch them play, it feels almost like you’re in a room with your friends playing a game together. This is especially true when all three are together. They quarrel, they yell, and they bicker, but frankly that’s part of their charm. They way they treat each other is how so many close friends treat each other: with a mutual disrespect rooted in love.
This is not the main focus of their playthroughs, though. They often try to get as much done in the game as possible. Pat and Woolie are currently playing a game called “The Cat Lady.” In this game, Pat tries to choose the bad selections just to see how it will go before (oftentimes) being forced to choose the “correct” answer. I like this about him, because there are so many gamers out there that just want to get the “good” ending. He wants to push the envelope and see what all went into the game.
I truly enjoy the dynamic that they have together. However, there was one game I can immediately think of that I did not enjoy watching very much. That was their playthrough of Silent Hill: Homecoming. In this game, Pat was extremely grumpy and impatient with Matt, but Matt took it in stride. I realize that this game was one of the worst in the series, but I think Pat could have handled himself a little better.
As I said before, this one of my favorite gaming channels on YouTube, which is why I chose to review it first. If I were to rate the friends on a scale of 1-10, they would get 9. It’s really hard for me to give a perfect score, but they sure come close.
