I love to watch games. To be honest, I prefer to watch other people play games instead of playing them myself. Because of this, I watch a lot of “Let’s Play” channels on YouTube. My series “YouTube Game Channels” will illustrate some channels I have stumbled across in my viewing time. With all that said, let’s dive into Volume 2: Jacksepticeye!

“Jacksepticeye” is widely known in the YouTube gaming world. He has been around since 2007 and is considered one of the biggest gamers on YouTube. He is a solitary gamer, but has done quite a few collaborations. Jack posts several vlogs along with his gaming videos. He has done collaborations with other YouTubers in regards to other projects, not just vlogs or games. For example, he was in an “Antisepticeye vs. Darkiplier” video with Markiplier.
Jack is a boisterous, friendly lad from Ireland, and is quite proud of his heritage. His early channel reflected a different story, though. He started out very quiet and subdued; he also rarely used his own accent. Currently, though, he is one of the noisiest gamers I have thus far come across. On his YouTube channel he states that he is the “most consistently energetic videogame commentator on youtube.” Jack also now consistently speaks in his native accent.
Like I said, Jack is one of the most well-known gamers on YouTube, and for good reason. Early on, he didn’t have a webcam, but that didn’t stop him from finding ways to project his personality to the audience. One of his really early caricatures was his “survival hunter” in homage to Steve Irwin. He included Irwin’s famous accent and catchphrases (“Ain’t she a beaut!” for example.) Jack used this in several games, including Far Cry 3. His purpose in Far Cry 3 wasn’t to finish the game, but to complete random missions involving killing animals to “protect the area.” I was highly amused by this character.
I enjoy the fact that Jack plays some of the trendier games. I get a glimpse into what is more popular in the gaming world that way. What I don’t like, though is how MANY trendy games he plays. I went back and counted: in the last two weeks, he has played 6 games that I have seen other YouTubers play, either first or at the same time. This number doesn’t even include additional videos to complete or continue the games. I wish I could see more indie or obscure games from him.
One more thing I would like to add about Jack is that he can be quite raunchy in his swearing. I’m a cusser from way back, so this doesn’t bother me, but take it as a warning. One video I watched recently had 62 f-bombs…in just over 20 minutes. That was ONLY f-bombs. I’m not even counting other expletives in that video. This is a huge reason why I feel he is not kid-friendly. Also, I watched a recent video that he used the “c” word in. I may be a cusser, but I have a pet peeve for the “c” word. However, he is rather sparing in the use of that word nowadays.
I am a fan of JackSepticEye. He definitely cheers me up when I’m feeling like crap. But keep in mind, dear reader: 1) he plays a lot of trendy games and 2) he comes up with some pretty vulgar, creative ways to swear. So if either of these are deterrents for you, find someone else to watch. With my rating of 8 out of 10 though, I will continue to watch him.
